FAQs

Dealing with water damage in your home or business can be both stressful and disruptive. We're here to address some of the most common questions to help make the process clearer and less overwhelming.

Water Damage Restoration FAQs

  • How much does water damage restoration typically cost?

The cost of water damage restoration can vary significantly based on the extent and severity of the damage.

  • Should I try cleaning up myself?

No – our team is highly trained and equipped to handle problems such as these.  We can reduce the risk of injury and further property damage.

  • How to handle water damage cleanup in your home or business?

When a water emergency happens in your home or business, it's natural to want to act quickly. Here are some safe and effective steps you can take before we arrive:

    1. Assess the Severity of the Damage

Before taking action, try to determine how serious the water damage is. Avoid turning on fans until the exact conditions are known, as airflow can unintentionally spread damage.

    2. Shut Off the Water Source

If possible, locate and shut off the water source to stop the flow. If you're unsure where the water is coming from or how to shut it off, contact a plumber or wait for our team to assess and address the issue.

    3. Remove Wet Items and Minimize Further Damage

Safely remove wet cardboard, important documents, or other items of value from the affected area.

Use mops or towels to soak up excess water from hard surfaces or flooring, but avoid using a household vacuum for water removal, as it could cause damage or pose safety risks.

    Protect Furniture and Fabrics

    4. Place aluminum foil or wax paper between furniture legs and wet carpets or rugs to prevent staining.

Remove books, magazines, and other items that could leave stains on carpets or upholstery.

Hang draperies with plastic or coated hangers to keep them off wet floors.

Take cushions and pillows off wet upholstered furniture to help them dry faster.

    5. Avoid Using Electrical Items

Do not use electronic devices or appliances that have been exposed to water. If there's a chance someone else might inadvertently turn on an affected device, consider switching off the circuit breaker for the impacted area to prevent electrical hazards.

Remember, only perform tasks you can do safely. Our team will handle the assessment and provide professional care to restore your property.

Certified technicians use standard methods and specialized equipment to ensure the job is done correctly

  • Can you help me with mystery issues?

Yes, we can! Our team has extensive experience in identifying and addressing a wide range of unexpected or unclear issues. Using specialized tools and techniques, we’ll help you uncover potential problems and guide you toward the right solution

  • What makes Anthony Restoration way so special?

When water damage occurs, it impacts more than just the structure of your home—it affects your personal belongings, livelihoods, and daily life. Furniture, clothing, keepsakes, and other items may be damaged, and your routine can be disrupted.

At Anthony Restoration, we are here to help restore both your property and your peace of mind.

  • How do I keep track of non-restorable items?

Our restoration team will create a comprehensive list of any items we find during the restoration process. We’ll also note their condition, including whether we could salvage the item or had to dispose of it.

  • What are some common effects of water damage?

Water damage is known to cause bacteria and fungi growth in as little as 36 hours. It can also weaken and compromise the structure of your home by warping floors and destroying walls or ceilings. This is why moving quickly matters.

  • What does the water damage restoration process involve?

Our water damage restoration process involves very specific procedures and safety precautions to repair your property. We will bring in advanced restoration equipment to mitigate the water damage and begin drying the affected areas properly. We will then remove any damaged structural components, such as flooring and drywall. The damage may be hidden, so we need to look inside of the walls to really help.

  • How does the water damage restoration process work?

It all begins with an initial assessment and stabilization. We will determine the extent of the damage and how best to move forward. Then, the process is broken down into steps:

Step 1 – We dry the affected areas using wet vacuums, pumps, and industrial-grade air movers.

Step 2 – We remove carpet and padding that cannot be salvaged.

Step 3 – We’ll restore your personal belongings to the best of our abilities.

Step 4 – The team will clean and dehumidify the area to prevent mold growth or worsening damage.

  • What are the major causes of flood damage and water damage?

Typically, flood and water damage is caused by a number of problems, including:

    • Leaking appliances, such as dishwashers, washing machines, and refrigerators.
    • Leaking or burst pipes
    • Clogged sinks or overflowing toilets
    • Hidden moisture underneath the floors or inside of the walls.
    • Flash floods, storm damage, hurricanes, tropical storms.
  • Can water damage be hidden? If so, what are the signs?

Yes – water damage can remain hidden for days on end. You won’t notice the damage until it worsens. The signs of water damage include an unpleasant, mildew-like odor, slight stains on the walls and ceilings, peeling paint, warped flooring and other effects.

  • Do I need to find the exact source of water damage before starting mitigation?

While your insurance company may request that you identify the source of water damage, you don’t have to delay mitigation to start protecting your property.

During the water damage mitigation process, professionals often perform a discovery phase to further locate the source area of water intrusion. This approach ensures that the damage is addressed comprehensively and accurately.

    Why is this important?

    • Prevent Further Damage: Even without knowing the exact source, steps like stopping visible leaks, extracting water, and drying the area can prevent microbial growth and structural damage.
    • Source Area Identification: Professionals use specialized tools and techniques to identify hidden leaks or problems, which may not be obvious to homeowners.  We narrow down the source of the water intrusion, even if it cannot be precisely pinpointed.
    • Calling in Experts: If the exact source requires confirmation or repair, we can assist in identifying and coordinating with other professionals—such as plumbers, roofers, or HVAC specialists—to ensure a thorough and accurate resolution.
    • Documentation for Insurance: Mitigation companies typically document the situation during the process, helping provide valuable evidence for your insurance claim.

Remember: Time is critical with water damage. Waiting too long could worsen the damage and potentially impact your insurance claim

  • Who to call for water damage?

Anthony Restoration is nearby and ready to respond to your water damage emergency immediately. Our technicians are available 24/7 to provide emergency services without delay. Call us now or contact us directly through our website to get the help you need.

  • How long does the drying and cleaning process take?

Drying and cleaning a structure depends on the severity of the water damage, the type of structure, and the level of contamination present. The timeline can vary significantly based on a variety of factors, including the extent of the damage, the amount of contents, the removal of materials, and the elimination of contaminants, among others.

Restoring your home or business to pre-loss conditions is our top priority. Our team is dedicated to monitoring the process, focusing on drying, cleaning, and decontaminating the area.

  • Why hasn't my insurance company called me back?

We are experiencing some delays in response times from insurance companies.  However, it's important to keep moving forward with addressing the damage, and we are here to assist you throughout the process.

  • What if my insurance company is delaying, what should I do?

As a homeowner, you have more power than you might think in pushing the project forward. Insurance companies are not restoration professionals, and it’s important for them to understand that you have a duty to mitigate the damages. You can take proactive steps, like documenting the damage, moving forward with restoration efforts, and communicating with your insurer to make sure the process continues moving. It’s in everyone’s best interest to avoid further damage, so don’t hesitate to assert your need for timely action.

  • What if my insurance company mentions a denial?

If your insurance claim is denied, it’s important to request a written denial via email, as a simple verbal denial might just be a delaying tactic. Understanding the specific reasons for the denial is crucial, so make sure to ask for clear explanations.

We offer financing options through our partners, providing a valuable benefit for all homeowners, including those impacted by insurance denials or unexpected storms. This allows you to move forward with your restoration project without delay. We're here to assist you in finding a solution that works, so you can get the help you need without further stress.

  • Do I need mitigation paperwork before starting the rebuild?

It’s uncommon for insurance companies to require mitigation paperwork before approving a rebuild. Many of our customers move forward with the rebuild process while our documentation is still being finalized, as mitigation and rebuild are typically separate phases.

If the insurance company insists on waiting, ask why it’s necessary—it’s not a standard practice and may cause unnecessary delays. For questions or updates, feel free to contact us!

  • What if my insurance company delays their responsibilities?

We understand that insurance reviews can happen quickly, but if there’s a delay in payment, interest may apply. While insurance companies may initially say they won’t cover these costs, they often reconsider once they’ve been incurred and may allow reimbursement. These charges help us maintain a fair and consistent billing process. We recommend reaching out to your insurance provider to inquire if these costs can be reimbursed.

  • What if my insurance mentions I need to use their vendor?

We’ve had many satisfied customers who have worked with us and received full payment for their claims.

Please note that some adjusters may not have the necessary equipment (moisture meters) to assess moisture levels, and there may be situations where written confirmations are essential. We recommend documenting everything and ensuring clear communication to avoid potential missteps. If you ever feel pressured to use a specific vendor or method, we’re here to advocate for your right to choose.

  • Do you work with warranty companies and HOAs?

Yes, Anthony Restoration works with warranty companies and HOAs to provide reliable and efficient property restoration services. We understand the importance of thorough documentation and meeting HOA requirements, ensuring clear communication and delivering quality work.

We’re also experienced in handling commercial and large-loss projects!
