When you have a water leak or an excessive moisture problem, finding out where the water is originating from is vital to stopping the intrusion from causing further water damage.

What are the methods used in moisture detection?

We use equipment that detects moisture to determine just how much moisture is present and how widespread the intrusion is and a mitigation plan. Without these tools, you would have no idea what to do or where to go next in the inspection.

Tools used for initial moisture detection are:

Borescopes - optical inspection cameras or videoscopes on a rigid flexible tube.

Hydro (moisture) Sensors - penetrating meters to check how far moisture has traveled from the source.

Thermo-hygrometers - measure temperature and relative humidity to test whether or not an environment can be effectively dried with tools like dehumidifiers.

Non-penetrating Moisture Meters - measures  the wood’s moisture level using an electromagnetic signal.

Penetrating Moisture Meters - determines the wood’s moisture content by measuring the resistance encountered by an electrical current.

Thermal Imaging Devices - measures thermal energy (heat) into visible light to find hidden moisture.
